Afghanistan
In our evolving national fight against terrorism:
- I do support the war efforts in Afghanistan
- I have unmeasured faith and respect for General Petraeus and our troops on the ground
- In line with this support though, I maintain that our government must establish necessary benchmarks for troop reductions in Afghanistan
- The troop withdrawal timeframe should proceed in such a manner that provides no opportunity for the reemergence of Taliban forces, but instead a safe transition of responsibility back to the Afghan government and properly trained Afghan security forces
- In Congress, I will work to ensure that the lessons learned from the Iraq war are not lost in our fight to end terrorism in Afghanistan
