AFL-CIO ENDORSES JIM PICCILLO FOR CONGRESS

Jacksonville, Florida— At the Crown Plaza, with a room full of union delegates and other candidates hopeful to receive an endorsement from the powerful AFL-CIO; it was Jim Piccillo who stole the show.

Jim Piccillo, the Democratic nominee for Florida’s 5th Congressional District, had the crowd fired up.  With his sleeves rolled up and a circle of delegates around him, he brought the crowd to its feet amidst thunderous applause, several times, as he spoke about issues affecting the working class people of Florida.  “Standing shoulder to shoulder with union employees is not merely lip service, it’s a family tradition.  It’s a way to protect the quality of life for working families across the country. We must remember that this great country was built on the backs of our working men and women.”

Robert Ray, the Florida AFL-CIO Political Field Director and the President of the West Central Florida Federation of Labor with the Central Labor Council, was hopeful as he spoke of their endorsement of Jim Piccillo. “We are very proud of our endorsement of Jim Piccillo.  Finally the working families in the 5th Congressional district of Florida will have a true representative.  We are confident that Mr. Piccillo will make the correct choices for Florida's working families when he becomes the Congressman from the 5th district of Florida.”

This is the first time since 2002 that the AFL-CIO felt that the endorsement of a candidate in the 5th district was warranted by their union.
